GreenPATH Newsletter #3: From Vision to Action — Pilots in Motion Across Central Europe

Date: 31.10.2025
By: GreenPATH

Over the past 18 months, GreenPATH has moved from vision to implementation — turning ideas into pilot projects, partnerships, and shared learning across Central Europe. Following the 4th Steering Committee meeting in Osijek (21–22 October 2025), the project enters an exciting new phase where sustainable mobility solutions are being tested, evaluated, and scaled to make greener commuting a practical reality.

“Together, we have built a strong foundation by analysing local contexts, engaging stakeholders, and co-designing innovative mobility solutions. Now our task is to test and scale these ideas — to make sustainable commuting part of everyday life across Central Europe,”
Anna Giarandoni, Lead Partner, GreenPATH Project (ITL Foundation)

Where We Stand Now

Project partners have been busy launching local promotional campaigns, engaging communities, companies, and institutions in the transition toward cleaner and healthier mobility. These campaigns pave the way for the ongoing pilot actions, now taking shape in cities and regions across six Functional Urban Areas.

Meanwhile, preparations are underway for the GreenPATH Training Courses, launching in early 2026, which will offer tailored learning paths for mobility managers in both the public and private sectors. Through four interactive modules, participants will gain practical tools in sustainable mobility management, digital innovation, and data-driven planning.

Highlights from the GreenPATH Pilots

  • Berlin (Germany) – At the EUREF Campus, the CO₂mmuting Challenge turned daily commutes into a gamified mission, with students and staff collectively saving 1.5 tons of CO₂. New cycling workshops, e-bike tests, and a repair station continue to build a vibrant culture of sustainable mobility.

  • Vienna (Austria) – The Bike2BOKU Challenge inspired students at BOKU University to cycle 1,730 km instead of using public transport, proving that community spirit and friendly competition can spark real behavioural change.

  • Maribor (Slovenia) – The University of Maribor is piloting e-bikes and a new green bicycle storage area to reduce car dependency for short and medium-distance commutes.

  • Kecskemét (Hungary) – A new demand-responsive bus service is offering flexible public transport options for commuters in the city’s industrial zone, supported by an innovative digital interface.

  • Osijek (Croatia) – Through collaboration with Ernst & Young, Osijek is developing data-based transport models for its main business zones, mapping sustainable commuting scenarios for 2027 and 2037.

  • Monza (Italy) – Local employees are encouraged to cycle to work through a gamified reward system that combines health, mobility, and local business support.

  • Ravenna (Italy) – Two pilots are transforming port mobility management: the first with the EMMA platform for company mobility managers, and the second developing a digital app to promote sustainable commuting for port workers.

Looking Ahead

The Osijek meeting marked a key turning point — a moment to reflect on achievements, exchange lessons, and strengthen cooperation. With the pilots now in full motion and training courses on the horizon, GreenPATH is entering a new stage: one focused on collecting tangible results and turning experimentation into impact.

As Anna Giarandoni noted, “GreenPATH is more than a project — it’s a community of innovators in urban mobility, working together to make sustainable commuting the new normal.”
