Pro Danube International organised an online workshop within the framework of the EU-funded FERRYTALES project, focusing on the electrification and automation of inland ferries. The event brought together participants from Germany, Austria, Slovakia and Hungary to exchange knowledge and discuss innovative solutions for the future of ferry transport in Central Europe.
The workshop explored the opportunities and challenges associated with introducing electric and automated ferry operations, with a particular focus on sustainable mobility, technological innovation and practical implementation requirements. The discussions contributed to a better understanding of the technical, operational and regulatory considerations involved in modernising ferry services.
FERRYTALES aims to develop and demonstrate sustainable, zero-emission and autonomous ferry solutions to improve connectivity in rural, peripheral and cross-border regions where bridges are not always a viable option. By bringing together stakeholders from different countries, the workshop supported the project’s broader objective of sharing knowledge and identifying solutions that can be replicated across Central Europe.
Pro Danube International will continue to contribute its expertise in inland waterway transport policy, best practices and regulatory frameworks to support the development of sustainable and future-ready ferry services.
