The CICADA4CE Final Conference, held on 6 October 2026 at spinPLACE in Katowice, Poland, marked the conclusion of 2.5 years of transnational cooperation towards more climate-resilient cities.
Hosted by the Institute for Ecology of Industrial Areas (IETU), the project’s Lead Partner, the event brought together partners from the Czech Republic, Germany, Slovakia, Slovenia, Italy and Poland, alongside representatives of the Interreg Central Europe Programme, national institutions and local authorities.
A key message emerged from the discussions: climate adaptation requires cooperation between public authorities, experts, organisations and local communities. By combining local knowledge, community engagement and nature-based approaches, cities can develop solutions that better respond to their specific climate challenges.
Key results and lasting impact
Throughout the project, 13 partner organisations worked together to develop and test ecosystem- and community-based approaches to climate adaptation (ECbA). Key results include a transnational concept, Action Plans for five partner cities, commitments from local authorities to implement these plans, pilot solutions and investments, and a Handbook sharing innovative approaches and lessons learned.
The project’s legacy will be supported by the CICADA4CE transnational online platform, the Cities in the Green Deal World network and the Urban Living Labs, which may continue to foster cooperation between local stakeholders beyond the project’s duration.
The journey continues
The Final Conference provided an opportunity to celebrate the partners’ achievements, share experiences and look ahead to future challenges. Although CICADA4CE is coming to an end, its knowledge, practical solutions and partnerships will continue to support efforts towards greener, more resilient and more liveable cities across Central Europe.
Building climate-resilient cities is a shared responsibility — and the journey continues.
