As part of the Carbon Farming CE, the Department of Forage Crops Breeding and Genetics at the Agricultural Institute Osijek hosted a roundtable discussion titled Carbon for the Future. The event took place on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at the Croatian Chamber of Economy – Osijek County Chamber.
The topic of carbon farming and establishing a government-led business model is not only timely but strategically crucial for the future of Croatian agriculture.
The discussion highlighted the existing potential within science, practical applications, and institutions, while also emphasizing the need for improved connections, education, and monitoring of results in the agricultural field.
Although eco-schemes are designed as one-year interventions, they can serve as a foundation for a long-term transformation toward sustainable and climate-responsible agriculture. This is possible if we strategically target these schemes, simplify their implementation, and make them more accessible to producers.
