Breaking Down Barriers, Strengthening Cooperation: Inn-Salzach Euregio Highlights the Positive Results of the “BorderLabs CE” Project

Date: 18.06.2026

The board members of Inn-Salzach Euregio meet regularly to discuss current developments in the region and generate new ideas. A cornerstone of the association’s work has traditionally been close, cross-border cooperation with its Bavarian neighbors.

The board consists primarily of political and regional decision-makers from the 134 participating municipalities in the Innviertel and Hausruck regions, as well as selected representatives of various interest groups.

On June 18, 2026, the board convened for its most recent meeting, during which, among other things, the transnational EU project “BorderLabs CE” for the region was successfully concluded. Project manager Katja Rosner (Office of the State Government of Upper Austria) presented the results of the comprehensive analysis of border barriers and gave a positive assessment of the events held to date. Particular emphasis was placed on the progress made in providing information for cross-border commuters and in cross-border communication between authorities.

An overview of the activities of the other project partners, as well as the “Charter for a More Integrated Central Europe,” provided valuable insights for the region.

The initiatives presented met with broad approval among the participants. The board agreed that, going forward, there will continue to be a need for committed stakeholders and established structures dedicated to the ongoing removal of legal and administrative border barriers.

Those interested can find further details on the pilot actions and proposed solutions on the official BorderLabs CE project page of the Interreg CENTRAL Europe Program.
