A new tool for regions: The FI4INN Virtual Knowledge Centre Is Now Online

Designing and implementing financial instruments to support innovation is often a complex task — especially for regional actors working with limited resources, fragmented information, or inconsistent policy frameworks.

To address this challenge, the FI4INN project has created a landing page for its Virtual Knowledge Centre (VKC): a centralised, user-friendly page that gathers and showcases concrete examples of financial instruments across Europe.

Whether you are a policy designer, regional development agency, finance practitioner, or ecosystem builder, the VKC offers you direct access to tools that can inspire, inform, and accelerate your work.

What’s inside the Virtual Knowledge Centre?

The VKC brings together two core resources:

1. Factsheets for Innovative Financial Schemes

A growing collection of practical, easy-to-digest summaries of financial instruments already used.

As known already, the factsheets are grouped into six categories:

  • Equity and quasi-equity

  • Loans and guarantees

  • Services and in-kind support

  • Reward/impact-based schemes

  • Combined instruments

  • Basket bonds and portfolio tools

 2. Power BI Tool

An interactive dashboard that lets users explore the factsheets through visual filters — making it easy to compare schemes by country, mechanism type, or stage of the innovation cycle.

Why is this important?

Too often, public authorities and innovation agencies develop financial instruments in isolation, without access to replicable models or tested insights. The VKC aims to solve that by offering a curated, accessible space where good practices are visible and adaptable. Users can quickly navigate examples that suit their local context — saving time, avoiding duplication, and supporting smarter public investment.
