The event focused on how immersive technologies could support and complement existing teaching and training methods in healthcare education. Participants gained insights into practical VR/XR applications, current developments, and the experiences of educational institutions in Germany and Austria that had already tested immersive learning solutions in practice.
A central element of the programme was the Innovation Workshop on VR/XR in Nursing Education, which provided a framework for discussing key success factors and challenges related to the implementation of immersive technologies. The workshop addressed didactic concepts, technical requirements, organizational conditions, and practical applications of VR/XR in nursing education. Short expert presentations, including contributions from the Care Education Forum, complemented the discussions and provided additional perspectives on the future use of immersive learning technologies.
Participants were also introduced to the results and lessons learned from the hackathon “Nursing Meets VR Technology”. These experiences demonstrated how collaboration between healthcare education and technology stakeholders could contribute to the development of innovative and practice-oriented future VR concepts about training approaches and further use of the technology in education.
The workshop encouraged exchange between organizations that had already gained practical experience with VR/XR and those that were still preparing for testing or implementation. This peer-learning approach enabled participants to share knowledge, identify common challenges, and discuss possible solutions for integrating immersive technologies into educational practice.
By bringing together practical experiences, expert knowledge, and lessons learned within the VReduMED project, the workshop contributed to the transfer and capitalization of project results. It strengthened cooperation among relevant stakeholders, supported knowledge exchange across educational institutions, and helped create a better understanding of the conditions required for the sustainable uptake of VR/XR technologies in nursing education.
The event was collaboratively organized by two Bavarian project partners – Sensorik Bayern and OTH.
