Main lessons
The event’s cross-sector format highlighted that replacing vehicle technology alone was not enough to transform mobility. Successful deployment also depended on:
- infrastructure availability;
- fleet operating requirements;
- energy-system capacity;
- total cost of ownership;
- user accessibility and service quality;
- cooperation between operators, cities and technology providers.
Different mobility applications required different solutions. Technology choices therefore needed to reflect vehicle duty cycles, available infrastructure and the needs of users rather than relying on a single approach for every mode of transport.
Practical value
For public authorities, MOVE 2024 reinforced the importance of coordinating transport policy with energy and infrastructure planning. This approach also helped regions assess where battery-electric mobility was most practical and where hydrogen or other fuels might provide value for demanding transport applications.
