Food4CE organised an online workshop, hosted by the Slovenian ORbITaLA Innovation Hub, focused on “Sustainable logistics: transport optimisation, electric vehicles and external support – outsourcing of transportation.”

The workshop was held online via Microsoft Teams on Wednesday, 29 January 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM (CET).

Participants explored practical strategies for optimising transport costs, adopting electric vehicles, and integrating outsourcing into logistics processes. The workshop was designed for anyone managing transport operations, delivering food products, or considering a transition to electric vehicles, offering practical advice to reduce transport costs and improve business efficiency.

Transport costs and calculation

Dr. Maršenka Marksel (Faculty of Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering and Architecture, University of Maribor)

Key factors influencing transport costs, including distances, logistics strategies, cargo sizes and delivery frequency, were presented. Special emphasis was given to practical examples of transport cost calculations considering different vehicle types, distances and package sizes.

Buying an electric vehicle and possible subsidies

Dr. Maršenka Marksel (Faculty of Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering and Architecture, University of Maribor)

The session presented the benefits of electric vehicles, practical guidance for selecting vehicles suitable for local food providers, and cost calculations related to the purchase, maintenance and operation of electric vehicles.

Optimisation of transport routes

A practical demonstration of the route optimisation process, from data import to the optimised route.

Outsourcing: how to organise food delivery efficiently

Presentation of practical examples of cooperation with external logistics providers.

Alen Kahvedzic, Pošta Slovenije Ltd.

Presentation of options for shipping food products via Pošta Slovenije, including product types, delivery times, approximate delivery costs and payment methods.

Andrej Cipola, Murska Transport Ltd.

Presentation of transport options for fruit, vegetables, dairy products and meat using dual-temperature vehicles (+5/-20 °C), as well as refrigerated vehicle rental services.
