GreenPATH Final Conference: From Local Mobility Solutions to European Policy Recommendations

21 October 2026 | 14:00–17:30 | Brussels, Belgium

How can we make everyday commuting greener, healthier and more accessible for students and workers across Central Europe?

On 21 October 2026, the GreenPATH project will hold its Final Conference in Brussels, bringing together European policymakers, regional authorities, mobility experts, researchers and project partners to share the project’s achievements and discuss the future of sustainable commuting in Functional Urban Areas (FUAs).

Hosted at the Emilia-Romagna Region Delegation to the European Union, the event will provide an opportunity to reflect on the results of GreenPATH’s pilot actions and explore how innovative mobility management solutions can be transferred, replicated and integrated into long-term European mobility strategies.

From pilot experiences to sustainable mobility solutions

Throughout its implementation, GreenPATH has supported the development and testing of innovative approaches to mobility management, addressing the everyday commuting needs of students and employees.

Through pilot activities carried out across Central Europe, the project has explored how behavioural change, digital tools, stakeholder engagement and integrated governance can encourage more sustainable mobility choices.

The Final Conference will showcase these experiences, highlighting practical solutions and lessons learned, as well as their potential to inspire mobility policies beyond the project partnership.

Bringing together European perspectives and local experiences

The conference will open with institutional contributions from Lorenza Badiello, Director of the Emilia-Romagna Region Delegation to the EU; Elodie Villeneuve, Programme Officer at the Interreg CENTRAL EUROPE Joint Secretariat; and Anna Giarandoni, representing ITL, the GreenPATH Lead Partner.

The programme will also feature two contributions addressing the broader challenges of sustainable urban mobility:

  • Giacomo Lozzi, Policy Officer at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport (DG MOVE), will explore governance and innovation for everyday commuting beyond city boundaries.
  • Professor Giovanni Circella, from Ghent University and Head of the EIT Urban Mobility Master School, will discuss the role of behavioural change, urban planning and smart mobility solutions in transforming commuting practices.

Four thematic sessions to explore GreenPATH’s achievements

The afternoon programme will continue with four thematic sessions focusing on the project’s main areas of intervention.

SESSION 1 – PEOPLE | Understanding commuter needs and changing mobility behaviours

Marian Lep (University of Maribor) and Nora Bonatz (Technische Universität Berlin) will share GreenPATH pilot experiences addressing the commuting challenges of students and employees, highlighting the importance of people-centred mobility management approaches.

SESSION 2 – DATA-DRIVEN TOOLS | Smart mobility tools and integrated solutions

Alessandro Meggiato (Emilia-Romagna Region) will present EMMA RE-R, the mobility management coordination dashboard adopted by the Region, illustrating how digital tools and data sharing can support more effective mobility planning.

SESSION 3 – GOVERNANCE | Strengthening cooperation between mobility actors

Gabriele Grea (Redmint) will discuss governance models for Functional Urban Areas, exploring how public authorities, employers and mobility managers can work together to integrate sustainable commuting solutions into broader urban mobility strategies.

SESSION 4 – REPLICATION & POLICY TRANSFER | From pilot actions to European recommendations

Anna Marconato and Riccardo Maratini, from the Central European Initiative – Executive Secretariat, will present the project’s transferability findings and policy recommendations, focusing on opportunities to replicate GreenPATH solutions across Central Europe.

Looking ahead: building on GreenPATH’s legacy

The conference will conclude with a presentation by Valentina Cafforio (ITL) on the project’s next steps, exploring how GreenPATH’s achievements can be further developed through CROSS-MOVE@CE, building on existing results to improve sustainable commuting.

The event will be followed by a networking aperitif, offering participants an opportunity to exchange ideas and explore future cooperation.
