Study Visit on Agroecology Good Practices in Eastern Venice

Location: San Donà di Piave, Veneto region, Italy
Date: 30.06.2026 - 01.07.2026

From 30 June to 1 July 2026, an international study visit was held in the Veneto region of Italy as part of the Central-BIC project. The programme focused on agroecological practices in coastal areas, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable farming solutions. The study visit was organised by VeGAL in the San Donà di Piave area.

The study visit brought together Italian, Slovenian, Croatian, and Hungarian project partners, providing an excellent opportunity to exchange knowledge and experience on innovative approaches that integrate nature conservation, sustainable agriculture, and rural tourism. The transnational activity strengthened cooperation among the partners while promoting the transfer of good practices across the participating countries.

On the first day, participants visited the Val Grande Nature Park, where they learned about initiatives aimed at restoring natural habitats and enhancing ecosystem services. The programme included presentations on lagoon management, fishing valleys, horse breeding, and sustainable tourism. In the afternoon, the group visited Onde della Terra, an educational farm specialising in aromatic and medicinal herbs, where participants took part in immersive workshops on essential oils and botanical teas. The day concluded with a visit highlighting the preservation and valorisation of ancient grain varieties.

On the second day, participants split into two groups for parallel technical visits. One group visited the San Michele Biodynamic Farm, gaining insight into organic and biodynamic farming methods, biodiversity enhancement, habitat restoration, and soil fertility management. The second group visited Società Agricola Moldoi, located in the Belluno Dolomites National Park, where they explored innovative approaches to processing local plant resources and adding value to agricultural by-products such as olive pomace and olive leaves through the extraction of active ingredients.

The study visit provided valuable professional insights for all participants and contributed to the exchange of practical knowledge on sustainable agricultural and agroecological solutions. It further strengthened cooperation among the Italian, Slovenian, Croatian, and Hungarian partners, supporting the project’s objectives through international knowledge sharing, networking, and the dissemination of good practices.
