Shaping the future of Roßleben-Wiehe: COOPACTION capacity-building meetings pave the way for innovative local strategy

Date: 09.06.2026
A Bottom-Up Approach to Regional Challenges
The primary objective of these meetings was to strengthen local capacities in integrated territorial development and to find innovative solutions for challenges faced by structurally weaker regions. Using a participatory bottom-up approach, participants focused on addressing demographic shifts, social service needs, and economic growth.

From Vision to Concrete Concept Ideas
Through three structured sessions, stakeholders moved from identifying challenges to developing a first draft of an integrated development concept. Key priority areas identified during the discussions include:

Social Innovation: Transforming the existing multi-generational centre into a multifunctional social and digital service hub.
Healthcare & Housing: Improving local healthcare through telemedicine and creating barrier-free, age-friendly housing opportunities.
Tourism & Heritage: Developing the “Bronze Age Trail” to leverage the region’s unique natural and cultural landscape .
Education: Strengthening the role of Klosterschule Roßleben as a strategic partner for regional innovation and youth engagement.

Fostering Cooperation and Participation
A major highlight of the meetings was the discussion on new forms of civic engagement. Proposals included the establishment of a citizens’ or energy cooperative, the creation of a digital ideas platform, and the organization of an annual “COOPACTION Day” to promote civic involvement.

Participants emphasized that the region’s future success depends on close cooperation between public administration, businesses, and civil society.

Next Steps
The outcomes of these meetings provide a solid foundation for the finalization of the Integrated Local Development Strategy for Roßleben-Wiehe. These strategic priorities will now guide the preparation of concrete pilot actions within the COOPACTION project, ensuring that the developed solutions directly reflect the actual needs of the local community.
