Bridging the Gap: Data to Action

The primary objective of this Pilot Action is to transform complex climate science into operational tools for public administration. The event provided a deep dive into the indicators necessary for characterizing droughts and heatwaves, two of the most pressing challenges facing the North-East of Italy.

During the session, participants explored:

  • The CliNE (North-East Climate) Platform: A vital resource offering historical weather data and climate projections reaching the end of the century.
  • Interactive Dashboards: A preview of evolving digital tools designed to guide users toward specific climate services.
  • Policy Integration: An overview of the Regional Strategy for Adaptation to Climate Change (SRACC), ensuring that technical data aligns with legislative goals.

Key Insights from the Field

The workshop wasn’t just about sharing information—it was about listening. Through interactive sessions and a dedicated questionnaire, several critical themes emerged:

  • High Engagement: Technical experts, particularly in water management, show a strong readiness to adopt digital tools for decision-making.
  • The Accessibility Challenge: While data exists, there is a clear need for more integrated, user-friendly platforms that span across regional borders, especially for shared river basins.
  • Focus on Emerging Risks: While flood management is well-established, stakeholders highlighted a “knowledge gap” in drought and heatwave planning, which are expected to increase in severity.

Next Steps

The feedback gathered during this kick-off event will be instrumental in refining the Climate_CRICES dashboard and climate products. ARPAV and the project partners are committed to strengthening the dialogue with local authorities to ensure that the final outputs are not just scientifically sound, but practically indispensable for the technicians guarding our environment.
