Transformation in Progress: Pinerolo’s Courtyard Reimagined

Date: 06.04.2026

The historic courtyard of the Municipal Palace in Pinerolo is currently undergoing an inspiring transformation as part of the RE-PUBLIC SPACES initiative.

A key highlight of this process is the creation of a large-scale horizontal street art piece titled “Internal Horizon”, designed by Oscar Cauda. What makes this artwork unique is its collective nature — municipal employees actively contributed to its creation, turning the process itself into a participatory experience.

The project addresses one of the key challenges in historic urban environments: the urban heat island effect. Through the use of light, reflective colors and innovative design solutions, the intervention contributes to improving the microclimate and overall comfort of the courtyard space.

The artwork reinterprets the ground surface as a landscape inspired by the agricultural fields of the Pinerolo region, seen from above and animated by the symbolic presence of a grey heron. It combines aesthetic value with environmental function, aligning perfectly with the goals of RE-PUBLIC SPACES.

This is only the beginning. In the coming weeks, the courtyard will be further enhanced with green areas and social infrastructure, creating a more welcoming, sustainable, and inclusive space for both municipal staff and citizens.

The transformation in Pinerolo demonstrates how collaborative approaches and creative solutions can breathe new life into public spaces.
