Pilot action: Insect treatment

Date: 18.11.2025
Members of the foodCIRCUS project have successfully launched the first phase of trials under the research activity “Insects from Food Waste”. The main objective was to evaluate the feasibility and efficiency of using unsorted school food waste as a substrate for rearing insect larvae (Hermetia illucens).

The trials delivered very promising results:
✅ High Nutritional Value: The collected school food waste proved to be a rich and suitable input material, offering the essential nutrients required for healthy and efficient larval growth.
🐛 Successful Larval Development: Larvae responded well to the substrate, indicating the viability of this waste stream for insect bioconversion.

We hope to share more amazing results with you soon!
