Working in international and interdisciplinary teams, participants identified relevant needs and translated them into concepts for VR-based applications. The teams were given the flexibility to define the focus of their solutions themselves, ensuring that the developed ideas responded directly to practical challenges and user needs.
The hackathon offered participants the opportunity to apply and further develop their technical and programming skills in a real project setting. At the same time, they gained practical experience in teamwork, project organization, communication, and cooperation across different professional disciplines.
The event also provided insights into the growing role of digital and immersive technologies in nursing and healthcare. By working directly on VR-based solutions, participants explored how technological expertise could contribute to innovation in healthcare education and practice.
The hackathon demonstrated the value of bringing together healthcare and technology communities in a hands-on development process. It supported knowledge exchange, interdisciplinary learning, and the creation of practice-oriented ideas that could inform future applications of VR in nursing education.
By fostering collaboration between nursing and IT professionals and supporting the joint development of immersive solutions, the event contributed to the VReduMED project objectives of strengthening innovation capacities, promoting the uptake of VR technologies, and building bridges between healthcare education and the technology sector.
One of the key outputs of the event was a project concept based on PaneoVR technology, which allows for quick VR application development. Despite its simplicity and lack of proper 3D environment, it offers a simple, but still very useful, method on how to develop a VR application in-house, for quick tests or proofs-of-concept.
