The fifth European Hydrogen Week combined a high-level policy conference, technical discussions, project presentations and an exhibition of hydrogen technologies.

The programme addressed:

  • European hydrogen policy and regulation;
  • barriers to investment and market development;
  • decarbonisation of industry and transport;
  • European competitiveness and skills;
  • development of Hydrogen Valleys;
  • electrolyser, fuel-cell and mobility technologies.

The newly introduced Innovation Hub included an Innovation Forum covering research across the hydrogen value chain. A dedicated EU Project Pavilion and Technical Forum allowed funded projects to present their activities and results.

Main results

The event strengthened connections between policy, research and commercial deployment. It highlighted the need to:

  • turn research results into scalable applications;
  • create predictable conditions for investment;
  • coordinate hydrogen production, infrastructure and demand;
  • develop skills for the emerging hydrogen economy;
  • support regional cooperation through Hydrogen Valleys.

International cooperation was also strengthened through agreements between Hydrogen Europe and hydrogen organisations from India and Chile.

Practical value

For regional authorities and project developers, the event showed that hydrogen initiatives worked best when technology development was linked with realistic demand, infrastructure planning, skills and supportive regulation. The project presentations also provided examples that could inform hydrogen planning in other European regions.
