Ljubljana, Slovenia: Bringing Future Thinking into a Business Environment

Hybrid
Location: Slovenia
Date: 01.07.2025 - 31.08.2025

In summer 2025, UNPLUGGED arrived at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia (CCIS) in Ljubljana, bringing its experimental approach to circularity directly into a business and entrepreneurship environment.

The exhibition occupied the mezzanine floor of the Chamber, alongside four event halls and opposite staff offices. This strategic placement ensured that UNPLUGGED became part of the everyday movement through the building rather than remaining isolated in a dedicated exhibition room.

Its purpose in Ljubljana was particularly relevant to the wider objectives of CIRCOTRONIC: to challenge companies, entrepreneurs and business support actors to rethink their relationship with energy and electronic equipment.

By combining design, creativity and industry perspectives, UNPLUGGED encouraged visitors to consider not only environmental risks but also opportunities associated with more sustainable technologies, responsible energy use and innovative product design.

More than 150 people encountered the exhibition. Feedback was particularly positive around two participatory elements: creating Stories from the Future and engaging with the Be Here Now cards. Visitors described the combination as interactive and inspiring.

One dedicated event brought together around 20 CCIS employees. Participants were introduced to both the exhibition and the broader CIRCOTRONIC project before using the cards to create and share their own stories.

The Slovenian stage also demonstrated the practical realities of a travelling exhibition. CCIS team organised two successful events. Even when one set of cards disappeared, a replacement was quickly provided, allowing the participatory programme to continue.

Ljubljana showed that future thinking does not belong only in galleries, universities or design studios. Placed inside a Chamber of Commerce, it can become a way for businesses to ask a strategic question: what kind of relationship with technology and energy do we want to build next?
