Around 25 teachers from the private vocational school for nursing at the Barmherzige Brüder hospital in Regensburg took part in a workshop on “VR/AR in teaching,” which was held as part of a series of events initiated by Dr. Heudorfer. Dr. Heudorfer is a practicing physician at the Hospital of the Barmherzigen Brüder in Regensburg and conducts research alongside his clinical work at the OTH Regensburg, where he is affiliated with the Start-up Lab and focuses on his research topic in the field of immersive technologies.

The aim of the event was to impart basic knowledge about immersive technologies and to give teachers practical insights into possible application scenarios for nursing training.

In his keynote speech, Dr. Heudorfer addressed key questions in an understandable way: What do VR and AR mean? What possibilities currently exist for teaching? What advantages do immersive learning environments offer – and what challenges must be considered when integrating a VR system? The presentation provided a brief theoretical orientation and encouraged exchange and discussion.

In this context, Prof. Dr. Mohr emphasized that such formats build an important bridge: “Workshops like this help teachers not only to become familiar with new technologies, but also to realistically assess their didactic added value and develop specific ideas for their own teaching.”

As one of four stops on the event, the participants then visited the VR Lab at OTH Regensburg. There, they were given an introduction to the technical equipment and were able to try out various VR applications for themselves. While trying out the glasses and exploring the immersive learning settings, a lively exchange took place on how VR and AR could be integrated into teaching situations in the future. The teachers took the opportunity to ask questions, develop concrete ideas for use, and reflect on possible didactic added value for their own schools.

The participants were teaching staff from the Private School of Nursing at the Hospital of the Barmherzigen Brüder Regensburg, who were interested in exploring the use of VR/AR in nursing education and had the opportunity to engage with both theoretical foundations and practical applications during the workshop.

Representing OTH Regensburg were Prof. Dr. Christa Mohr (Head of the Nursing Research Lab), Dr. Fabian Heudorfer (Workshop Lead), Stephanie Teves (Student Assistant) and Cheryl Heinz (Student Assistant) from the Nursing Research Lab.
