Transforming Capacities Across Central Europe: Co-Creating Regional Innovation for a Greener, More Inclusive Future

SPARK! and Strategic Change in Hungary

In Hungary, the Central Transdanubian Regional Innovation Agency (CTRIA) launched the SPARK! Program, empowering 328 participants through 18 interactive activities. The program focused on aligning business missions with sustainability objectives via digital and creative workshops, and resulted in 11 DGC solutions and strong cross-sectoral partnerships.

Green Media and Tourism in Croatia

The Croatian partners (IRI Centar and FEBT Split) engaged 376 participants in 17 activities, co-creating 18 DGC solutions—the highest number across the consortium. Their pilot fostered peer learning and ran a 6-month internship program, bridging sustainable tourism and green media innovation.

Creative Collaboration in Slovakia

At the Technical University of Košice (TUKE), the Slovak pilot emphasized biodiversity and sustainability through co-creation. With 11 activities, 286 participants, and 9 DGC outputs, the initiative empowered CCIs, green tech actors, and BSOs with hands-on workshops focused on nature-based innovation.

Data-Driven Innovation in the Czech Republic

BIZGARDEN’s Czech pilot gathered 175 participants in 10 activities, producing 9 DGC solutions focused on sustainable tourism. By connecting students, creatives, and data experts, the pilot underscored the importance of informed decisions in transforming the tourism sector.

Entrepreneurship in Austria

The Carinthian partner BUILD led the most extensive outreach with 19 activities, 685 participants, and 9 DGC solutions. Their flagship build! Up program supported aspiring entrepreneurs through intensive training, peer learning, and a public demo day.

Sustainable Mobility in Italy – IUAV

In Venice, IUAV University designed “La Velocittà”, a participatory pilot exploring bicycle-based mobility. 7 activities, 182 participants, and 6 DGC solutions emerged from this design-driven approach that united students, designers, SMEs, and NGOs around sustainable mobility.

Green Certification and AI in Friuli Venezia Giulia

TEC4I FVG (formerly FINN) delivered 15 activities with 331 participants, co-developing 10 DGC solutions. The pilot covered green certification in tourism, carbon footprint analysis, and AI in CCIs—bridging tech and sustainability across sectors.

Storytelling and Wine Tourism in Germany

The SEZ pilot in Baden-Württemberg implemented 7 activities, involving 112 participants and producing 9 DGC solutions. With a focus on storytelling, green tourism, and creative entrepreneurship, the pilot supported wine producers, SMEs, and CCIs in embracing transformation.

Cycling Innovation in Slovenia

Primorska Technology Park and MAO organized 25 activities and engaged 444 participants to co-create 13 DGC solutions. Their pilot centered on circular cycling tourism, digital storytelling, and sustainable mobility in the Northern Primorska region.


Lasting Impact Through Shared Learning

 

These pilots showcased how place-based approaches and cross-sector partnerships can accelerate digital and green transitions. Whether through design, storytelling, tourism, or technology, each region adapted the Transforming Capacities model to reflect its unique assets and challenges. The pilots now serve as replicable models for regional development, setting the stage for broader systemic change in Central Europe.
