The status of public transport accessibility and measures to improve it

Date: 25.03.2024
Assessment of public transport (PT) accessibility is finalized in accordance with the developed methodology. It was done for the selected routes and regions, corresponding to the geographical areas where new services and solutions are to be tested – 3 routes (Trieste – Rijeka, Sopron – Neusiedl am See, peripheral routes in Tyrol and South Tyrol feeding Brenner corridor) and 2 regional cases (Istria Region and Rimini region). The partners used a calculation template, which allows the calculation of accessibility indicators that show the status of PT accessibility as well as give hints for the measures to be taken in order to improve PT connectivity and infomobility in selected study areas. The SUSTANCE methodology was also employed to assess the impact of the applied measures at the stated routes and regions, which were either introduction of new train services or new passenger infomobility support by mobile apps. The crucial part of PT accessibility assessment was to define the target of the analysis and to collect the data for calculation of performance and opportunity indicators. This took 4 months, followed by preliminary calculation and fine-tuning of the analysis parameters. Besides the calculations, the results of this analysis were presented to the stakeholders, reporting their feedback, for better planning of new/improved PT connectivity and infomobility solutions.
