The event brought together around 150 municipal representatives from across Saxony to discuss the draft Klimaanpassungsstrategie Sachsen. Key topics included financing mechanisms for local adaptation strategies, the debate on Pflichtaufgaben (mandatory municipal responsibilities), and the importance of cross-sectoral, practical approaches for implementation.
Workshop Highlights:
- Ministerial Input: State Minister Dirk Panter highlighted that the state supports the development of local adaptation strategies, but municipalities are responsible for implementing measures. Effective adaptation requires collaboration across all government levels.
- Interactive Dialogue: Poster sessions and discussion tables allowed participants to provide feedback on sector-specific adaptation measures, including water management, infrastructure, health, agriculture, and ecosystems.
- Municipal Challenges: Common themes included limited administrative capacity, the need for flexible, locally tailored strategies, and the value of guidance, templates, and advisory support.
IOER’s Perspective:
As a project partner, IOER’s participation offered valuable insights into municipal priorities, capacities, and challenges. These observations help the Climate_CRICES project design research outputs and practical tools that support municipalities in translating climate adaptation strategies into local action.
