As part of the SuPeRBE project, the Meterize city district  has been selected as one of the pilot areas.

Meterize began to take shape during the 1970s and 1980s, a time when Šibenik was experiencing significant industrial expansion and population growth. Since then, it has evolved into a prominent residential neighborhood, offering a mix of family houses and apartment complexes. The area stands out for its reliable infrastructure and quality of life. Residents have access to a range of amenities including a local elementary school, preschools, various shops, cafés, sports grounds, and children’s play areas. Efficient road links and frequent bus services connect Meterize with the city center and surrounding districts. Its location near natural landscapes also makes it ideal for leisure activities and spending time outdoors. Around 6,000 people live in Meterize, mostly young families with children.

Rising temperatures, prolonged heatwaves, and frequent droughts represent the most serious threats to the City of Šibenik and the district of Meterize. Additionally, the expansion of grey infrastructure contributes to the formation of urban heat islands.

Although Meterize is partially surrounded by hills and natural vegetation, the lack of green infrastructure remains a critical issue. As part of our pilot project, a key output will be the development of an action plan. This plan will include a detailed area analysis aimed at identifying specific measures and goals to enhance the climate resilience of the neighborhood.

An action plan will be developed outlining specific measures and objectives aimed at improving the climate resilience of the area.
