One of the key activities in Kamnik is the pilot development of PARKing Veronika – a temporary redevelopment of a public area in the parking lot next to Kavarna Veronika, below Malograjski hill. The location was chosen for its historical and symbolic importance and its role as a popular meeting point for citizens and visitors.
Based on the principles of tactical urbanism, the layout temporarily transforms the space into an urban living room – an open space for meetings, workshops, events and reflection on the future of urban mobility. With the solutions of green tactical urbanism, we want to show how even small and temporary interventions in space can trigger big shifts – both in people’s mindsets and in the everyday use of urban spaces.
PARKing Veronika was created with the idea of how public space can become more than just a functional surface. The design, developed by Štajn Group architects together with students and the local community, is complemented by a very special artistic intervention – a unique bicycle rack inspired by a Kamnik legend and created by local sculptor Nina Koželj. We added a wooden screen for visual protection of the eco-island, some benches, creating a space for socialising, relaxing and socialising.
Come and experience
With the PopUpUrbanSpaces project, Kamnik is proving that small spatial changes can lead to big shifts in the way people behave and experience a city. You are invited to visit PARKing Veronika, participate in the events and co-create a future where cities are friendlier, safer and more connected.
Events and content until autumn 2025
PARKing Veronika is not only a spatial intervention, but will also serve as an event space in the coming months. Various events organised by the cultural association Priden možic will take place here until September 2025. The events will be aimed at all generations, so you are welcome to follow the announcements. Already on Thursday, 10 July, at 21.30, you can watch the story of Veronica, which will be projected onto the walls of the Small Castle.
