Business Upper Austria organized 3 VR workshops on 15th, 23rd and 29th October, 2025 which were part of the VReduMED Pilot Action 2, focusing on transnational ideation sessions in Virtual Reality.

During the 1st workshop using the MeetinVR application and Meta Quest devices, participants from different regions collaborated in an immersive environment equipped with tools such as virtual whiteboards and presentation screens.

The main topics included onboarding to VR technology, exploring its potential for medical education and innovation, and conducting a structured brainstorming session on future applications.

Key outcomes were hands-on experience with VR collaboration tools, exchange of ideas between care experts, students and VR specialists, and valuable feedback on usability and VR workshop design. The event demonstrated the feasibility of VR-based transnational collaboration and provided insights for improving future sessions.

The 2nd workshop has been organized during theĀ  German roll-out event. There were an open discussion on experiences, challenges, and perspectives regarding the use of virtual reality (VR) in nursing education. The approach was the collection of experiences, ideas, and concerns from practice, the simulation of scenarios that are difficult to implement in real life (e.g., restraints, emergency situations). In the long term, VR should become as commonplace as smartphone use.

The following conclusions were reached at the event:

  • students’ expectations must be actively managed,
  • projects should be scientifically supported and designed to be sustainable,
  • political communication is important, because the impact and benefits must be made visible.

Special Focus on the 3rd workshop was the integrated whitboard area, where ideas for future VR care applications or healthcare improvements had to be drawn and discussed.
