Meet our pilots – Rzeszow

Date: 17.09.2025
Bzianka was chosen for its peripheral location and municipal land ownership, allowing residents to switch from cycling to buses when providing the planned bicycle shelters. Planning went smoothly due to strong collaboration among RRDA, the Municipality, and ZTM. A challenge arose during procurement when the selected contractor withdrew, delaying implementation. Nevertheless, full communication and shared problem-solving were key to progress.

Rzeszów built strong initial cooperation between RRDA, the Municipality, ZTM, and local cycling advocates, ensuring broad buy-in from the start.

Although the implementation has not been completed, the pilot highlights how robust inter-institutional collaboration and political support can help sustain momentum through procurement-related delays. Despite a last-minute contractor withdrawal, the project team adapted quickly by contracting the next eligible provider, but the implementation was delayed. The evaluation strategy includes user counts and spatial perception surveys, and the location—selected for its strategic suburban connectivity—was praised by reviewers as ideal for testing modal shift from car to bike-and-bus commuting. Risk mitigation through media outreach and strong coordination with the PTA helped maintain engagement during delays.
