Krems selected Hafnerplatz, a multifunctional area where, by reclaiming 5 parking spaces for pedestrians, they created an area for the neighbourhood as well as visitors to the area who pass by. The site selection was influenced based on previous local activities already recognizing this place as potential for re-development actions.
Krems included planning and traffic safety departments, an environmental councilor, officer for citizen engagement and local NGOs. Extra back-up to the project was the councilor for environment becoming the city’s mayor, being before the appointment already actively engaged in the process.
In Krems, they recognized the value of guidance they received from the project partnership when planning and implementing their pilot project.
