Matchmaking forum: facilitating reuse in electric public transport systems

The CE4CE project has developed the CE4CE Knowledge Platform in 2024, a central digital hub designed to accelerate the adoption of circular economy principles in public transport systems across Europe. The platform was conceptualised and built collaboratively by all CE4CE project partners, with the Lead Partner Leipzig Public Transport Company (LVB) coordinating the process and an external expert managing technical development. As a key output of the project, the platform supports stakeholders in identifying circularity gaps and life-cycle actors, enabling effective knowledge transfer, and showcasing selected lifecycle value chains.

A standout feature of the platform is the Matchmaking forum, developed to facilitate the reuse of second-hand components and vehicles within electric public transport systems. The forum serves as an interactive space connecting operators, suppliers, policymakers, and researchers, fostering collaboration, business opportunities, and knowledge exchange. By providing a central hub for sharing data, offers, requests or simply asking for information, it supports circular product design and the recapture of value in the electric public transport sector.

The International Association of Public Transport - UITP, who is an Advisory Board member and supporter of the CE4CE project, has played a key role in the development phase by facilitating dialogue on service development among CE4CE experts and UITP Trolleybus Committee Members in Athens in April 2025. This dialogue aimed at testing and validating the platform with relevant stakeholders, ensuring the matchmaking forum is a practical service, effective, useful and ready for wider deployment.

The matchmaking forum was developed by trolley:motion with contributions from all CE4CE project partners. The section’s interface allows easy navigation, clear categorization of offers and requests, and seamless interaction between users, ensuring the platform is both functional and user-friendly.

The Matchmaking Forum is publicly available at (currently a demo version): https://circularity4publictransport.eu/matchmaking-forum/. A forum launch is planned for end of September. Stay tuned for further updates!
