Mapping the Future of Sustainable Cities: GreenScape CE’s Visual Mapping Tool

Date: 25.03.2025
As cities across Central Europe face growing environmental and urbanisation challenges, the GreenScape CE project supports local authorities and communities with practical tools to integrate nature-based solutions (NbS) into long-term planning.

Vlasta Vodeb, representing the Urban Planning Institute of the Republic of Slovenia (UIRS), introduces the GreenScape Visual Mapping Tool (GVMP)—a key output developed within the project to assist cities in navigating and implementing green infrastructure strategies effectively.

Designed with the future in mind, the GVMP offers:

• Long-term usability: It goes beyond the lifespan of the project, supporting sustainable decision-making for years to come.

• Stakeholder involvement: The tool is the result of a participatory process, co-created with input from cities and local actors to ensure relevance and accessibility.

• Concrete benefits: By visualising NbS potential and impacts, GVMP enables better-informed planning and helps improve environmental health, urban resilience, and quality of life.

Vlasta emphasises that the aim is not only to provide useful tools during the project implementation but to leave behind a practical and lasting legacy that empowers cities, stakeholders, and communities in the ongoing transformation toward sustainability.
