ICTr-CE Explorer Tour Pilot Region Central

The Explorer Tour format allows new products to be tested in a realistic environment as part of tourism product development. This tool is particularly important in the ICTr-CE project, as the project aims not only to tap into new sources of regional value creation with innovative cycle tourism, but also to set and meet new sustainability standards.

After intensive preparatory work by the project partners, it was time to test the innovative ICTr cycling product in the Central pilot region, which comprises 10 daily stages on the border between Austria, Czechia, and Slovakia, with real guests. To this end, a competent specialist tour operator was selected through a public tender process to carry out the Explorer Tour and, subsequently, after the project is completed in spring 2026, to take on the responsible task of being the “Official Eurovelo 13 Booking Centre.” For this, a very committed partner was found in Aktivbike Radreisen from Bad Gleichenberg.

The Explorer Tour took place from September 15th to September 20th with a total of six participants and ideal cycling weather, as it was not too hot and there was no rain. It started in the small town of Hardegg and ended in the capital of Slovakia, Bratislava, and gave cyclists the opportunity to experience the entire spectrum of EuroVelo 13 on this section. From the impressive monuments and memorials of the former Iron Curtain and cultural sights to regional cuisine and wine enjoyment. In addition, the participants actively participated in the evaluation of innovative tools for measuring sustainability, such as carbon footprint and the Impact Measurement System.

The Explorer Tour was a complete success and also forms a valuable basis for the further development of innovative cycling products with which EuroVelo 13 aims to position itself on the international cycle market.

Last but not least, here are a few customer reviews:
