As part of the DiSTT project, a series of hands-on workshops was organized at Happylab Vienna to introduce apprentices and trainers to key digital technologies used in modern production and innovation environments.

The three-day workshops brought together small groups of apprentices and their trainers to explore digital fabrication and programming in a practical setting. Hosted in the innovation workshop of Happylab Vienna, participants worked directly with technologies such as 3D printing, robotics, programming, and laser cutting.

During the workshops, apprentices learned the basics of programming using the Calliope Mini, built and controlled small robots, and gained insights into the fundamentals of 3D printing, including design, scanning, and how the technology works. They also received an introduction to digital fabrication processes, such as laser cutting, and applied what they learned in small hands-on projects that were presented at the end of the workshop.

The activities focused on strengthening digital competencies, creativity, and problem-solving skills, while also encouraging collaboration between apprentices and trainers. Working together on practical tasks allowed participants to experiment with technologies in a supportive environment and gain confidence in using new digital tools.

These workshops formed part of the broader DiSTT initiative to support the development of digital skills in education and training and to help learners better understand technologies that are increasingly shaping today’s workplaces.

Thank you to all apprentices, trainers, and partners who contributed to making these workshops a valuable learning experience.
