Why are we doing this? Because we believe history can play a real role in driving local development—especially in places where WWI heritage remains underused or unknown. Our pilot actions aim to break down barriers—both territorial and sectoral—that have been holding back the full potential of WWI sites.
With a fresh, innovative approach and cross-border cooperation, we are creating long-term structures and tools for managing heritage sustainably. It will help to create one Central Europe Walk of Peace (CEWoP). It would bring new life to WWI locations and turn them into spaces for shared memory, growth, and collaboration.
We are working in three regions, each at a different stage in WWI heritage governance:
- Italy – Slovenia (mature region)
- Poland – Slovakia (developing region)
- Hungary (starting/initial region)
