Participants at the first MedWaveImage workshop "Microwave imaging prototypes preclinical feasibility testing"

First MedWaveImage workshop

Date: 23.06.2025

On Tuesday, June 17th, 2025, the MedWaveImage project hosted a technical workshop at the Department of Electronics and Telecommunications of Politecnico di Torino.

The event featured keynote presentations and discussions on the preclinical feasibility testing of newly developed imaging prototypes for breast cancer detection, hyperthermia temperature monitoring, and post-stroke brain monitoring. Attendees were welcomed by Project Coordinator Prof. Francesca Vipiana, who provided an overview of the project’s objectives and results, followed by a distinguished talk by Prof. Luis Jofre-Roca (UPC, Barcelona) on emerging trends in physiological and functional microwave imaging.

Participants also heard project updates from academic partners across Europe:

  • Alexandra Prokhorova (TU Ilmenau) shared results from early-stage breast cancer detection tests.
  • Prof. Jakub Kollár (CTU Prague) presented real-time monitoring advances for thermal therapies.
  • Dr. David O. Rodriguez Duarte (Politecnico di Torino) demonstrated brain stroke imaging validations using realistic lab phantoms.

The workshop emphasized the low-risk, portable, and cost-effective nature of microwave imaging devices, positioning them as promising tools for improving access to healthcare, particularly in rural and underserved areas.
