Due to this year’s severe drought, the Edersee’s water level has dropped to only about one-fifth of its capacity, revealing the so-called “Edersee-Atlantis” much earlier than usual. Remnants of the flooded villages Asel, Berich, and Bringhausen—submerged in 1913 during the creation of the dam—have become visible again. Landmarks like the multi-arched Asel bridge can now be fully crossed on dry ground. The reemergence offers a rare, haunting glimpse into history, drawing thousands to hike across the lakebed and rediscover this hidden heritage.
