As a part of the SuPeRBE project, the Municipality of Schnifis recently hosted an in-person workshop dedicated to understanding future climate conditions and developing a long-term adaptation plan. The event brought together local authorities, emergency services, and climate experts to discuss how climate change will impact the community—both by 2050 and 2100.

A Collaborative Effort

The workshop was organized the Municipality of Schnifis and Hochschule München. Their expertise framed the discussion around expected weather developments and necessary adaptation strategies for Schnifis.

Understanding Climate Risks

The core of the session focused on a detailed presentation of projected weather conditions and the Climate Change Adaptation Plan. Participants explored:

  •     The fundamentals and mechanics of climate change
  •     Data-based projections for Schnifis in 2050 and 2100
  •     Major risks to local buildings, infrastructure, forests, and agriculture
  •     Practical mitigation and adaptation strategies for the built environment

Participants emphasised the importance of public awareness, personal responsibility, and safeguarding drinking and firefighting water supplies. The recent construction of a second water pipeline was noted as a crucial step for future resilience.

Next Steps

Several concrete actions were agreed upon, including requesting updated water forecast maps, reviewing climate projections in relation to planned flood protection structures, clarifying agricultural impacts, planning future consultations and decision-making processes.
