Our project partner Lignano Sabbiadoro is taking bold steps to transform into a climate-resilient community thanks to MISSION CE CLIMATE and, in June 13 and 14, the city hosted a Sustainability Festival to celebrate its progress towards a climate-resilient future: Lignano 180°.
Hundreds attended the two-days event rich of speeches, debates and guided tours who showcased best practices, shared experiences and inspired other communities to take climate action. “This is an extraordinary moment for us – said municipal councillor Marco Donà – and a great opportunity to share our expectations for the future of Lignano”.
One of the messages that emerged from the panels is that territorial projects, especially when they are built through participatory processes, are able to outline winning and replicable strategies.
Moreover, there is a common thread running through all the plans and innovative projects presented: it is the idea that planning means realizing a project “suitable for that place”, taking into account constraints and wishes posed by the peculiar features of the territory. And, in Lignano Sabbiadoro, beauty often rhymes with fragility.
Lignano 180° festival comes after the launch of a comprehensive climate
governance process to enhance stakeholders and citizens engagement, initiated by the local administration. This collaborative approach aims to accelerate the city’s transition to a climate-ready future. By fostering cross-sectoral, coordinated, and participatory strategies, Lignano Sabbiadoro seeks to co-design and co-implement resilient pathways.
Indeed, the Municipality has already achieved great success by completing the participatory process for the regeneration of Porto Casoni, a small harbour facing risks from sea-level rise and erosion. Another ongoing initiative is the Green Management Plan, integrating citizen participation to design sustainable public spaces. Both were presented at Lignano 180°.
