Concrete remains one of the most widely used construction materials due to its durability, resilience, and strong mechanical performance. It is resistant to water, extreme weather conditions, and fire, which makes it essential for a wide range of infrastructure and building applications.
At the same time, concrete production has a significant environmental footprint. This is why circular construction approaches are becoming increasingly important. Through improved recycling, material optimisation, reuse of secondary raw materials, and innovative low-carbon solutions, concrete can play an important role in supporting more sustainable construction systems.
Within the ReBuilt project, circular and digital construction practices highlighted the importance of improving resource efficiency, reducing waste, and strengthening material traceability across the construction value chain.
