The video depicts the efforts, work and achievements in the Italian coastal city of Lignano, where through a participatory approach and wide stakeholder dialogue, three major activities are implemented within the MISSION CE CLIMATE project:
Inclusive and resilient future for the port Porto Casoni
This initiative included joint drafting and adopting of a Mastrplan for regeneration of the flood-prone area of Porto Casoni. The area is of high cultural, touristic, biodiversity and economic importance for the city, with a number of intertwined interests from various stakeholders. In the video, Paolo Miotto and Mauro Sarti, designers of the Porto Casoni Masterplan from the studio Archpiùdue, explain how the drafting of the Masterplan managed to cover all the specific aspects in the planning and address the area-specific challenges: how should Porto Casoni look in order to preserve its landscape value, while preventing frequent flooding due to sea rise levels, while still serving the boat operaters and sea sport organizations that are dependent of it. All the while listening and incorporating the needs of the local population, environmental organizations and civil associations that live and breathe with the port. Together with the strong commitment and engagement of the Municipality of Lignano, Mr. Stefano Carbone facilitated the communication and co-creation process with the citizens and all stakeholders.
The result? A Porto Casoni Masterplan jointly prepared and agreed upon all stakeholders adopted by the City Council and approved for implementation. The Muncipality is now in the search for funding for its realization.
Development of a Green management plan of the city of Lignano
With land security, human health and well-being and climate-change mitigation at its core, architect Anna Costa and her team developed the Green management plan of the city of Lignano ((Piano del Verde di Lignano Sabbiadoro) with the aim to be adopted by the City Council. Designed not only to serve the rule of »availability or greenery for every citizen not farther than 300m away« but also make this spaces easily reachable, available, and serving the citizen’s daily needs for tranaport, sports and recreation. With the co-creation of the Green management plan and its clear focus on serving the community while addressing climate-related challenges, the Muncipality once again pioneered participatory green planning in this coastal area. Future transformation strategies and actions towards a greener, climate-resilient city will how build upon the basis set in the Green management plan, with citizens aware, engaged and part of the whole process.
Sustainability festival – Lignano 180°
The first of what we believe it’s going to be a long-lasting tradition of annual Sustainability festivals in Lignano was organized by the Municipality of Lignano and our project partners APE-FVG. The two-day rich programme in June brought together citizens, asssociations, decision-makers and stakeholders from the area to present the municipality’s work and climate change iniatives, both undertaken and ongoing. It is a way to not only celebrate the great success achieved but keep everyone informed and involved in what comes ahead and how they can keep on being informed, involved, heard. From expert panel sessions to open dialogue with citizens, it is a great way to keep communication open for all green initiatives happening in the area.
Keep up with our »5 minute with…« series and find out how we are contributing towards greener, sustainable, climate-resilience cities across Central Europe.
