The GOV4PeaCE project is moving south to the Alpine foothills of Rovereto, Italy β home of the Museo Storico Italiano della Guerra (MITAG) and a region with a profound connection to the First World War. From June 9 to 11, 2025, the Second Joint Transnational Strategic Workshop will bring together project partners, heritage professionals, and local stakeholders to deepen cooperation and develop governance models for WWI heritage.
Over the course of three days, participants from eight countries will engage in intensive working sessions, field visits, and public dialogue aimed at advancing the projectβs objectives in the areas of heritage management, tourism development, and cross-border cultural cooperation.
πΉ Key Focus Areas Will Include:
- Drafting governance models for memorial sites in border regions (Slovak-Polish, Slovenian-Italian, Slovenian-Hungarian),
- Developing communication and outreach strategies to connect heritage with modern audiences,
- Creating sustainable tourism products centered on WWI memory and education.
A highlight of the program will be an excursion to Monte Zugna, a major WWI battlefield that now forms part of the Parco della Pace (Peace Park) β an extraordinary open-air museum preserving trenches, tunnels, and fortifications amid breathtaking Alpine landscapes.
The final day will feature a public event with representatives from Italian and Slovenian institutions, a guest presentation by Viola Scalacci (Liberation Route Europe) on shared European narratives, and a strategic dialogue on linking memorial trails across Italy and Slovenia. Discussions will explore how to create cross-border heritage networks that connect people, places, and stories from a common past.
