The SMART CIRCUIT Study Visits implemented as 12 Transnational Mobility Missions (TMMs) represent one of the project’s most impactful knowledge exchange mechanisms. These visits enabled hands-on learning, direct collaboration, and the strengthening of cross-border relationships among innovation actors.
Bringing together more than 100 participants across multiple European countries, the study visits translated strategic goals into practical experience. They provided partners with the opportunity to explore real industrial environments, testbeds, and innovation infrastructures, making learning more effective than traditional remote collaboration.
The study visits focused on three key transformation pillars:
- Digital transformation
- Circular economy
- Advanced manufacturing
Through these missions, participants gained first-hand insights into cutting-edge technologies such as AI, robotics, additive manufacturing, and sustainable production systems. They also explored governance models, SME support services, and innovation ecosystems in different regions.
A major strength of the study visits was their interactive and peer-learning approach. Participants engaged directly with experts, visited operational facilities, and exchanged best practices, which helped build trust and foster long-term cooperation.
Key results of the study visits include:
- Strengthened interregional collaboration and trust
- Alignment of innovation services and strategies
- Initiation of joint projects and pilot concepts
- Enhanced knowledge exchange across sectors
Importantly, the study visits contributed to the creation of Circular Industry Development Corridors (CIDCs), laying the foundation for sustained transnational cooperation.
Overall, the SMART CIRCUIT Study Visits demonstrated that mobility-based learning is a powerful tool for accelerating innovation, building partnerships, and supporting the transition toward a circular and digital economy.
