On 25 March 2026, the H2CE Final Conference took place in Berlin under the title “Strengthening the H2CE Hydrogen-Ready Regions Network.” The hybrid event brought together representatives of public authorities, research institutions, and project partners from across Central Europe.

Hosted by the Berlin Senate Department for Urban Development, Building and Housing, the conference focused on the future role of hydrogen in regional energy systems and the transition from strategy to implementation.

Keynote speaker Jorgo Chatzimarkakis emphasized that Europe has strong hydrogen potential, but faster implementation is now essential. Discussions highlighted that hydrogen should be applied particularly in sectors where electrification is difficult, such as industry, refineries, and fertilizer production.

The H2CE project presented its key achievements, including planning tools for public authorities, regional hydrogen strategies, pilot solutions such as GIS-based decision-support tools, and the H2CE collaboration platform for continued international cooperation.

Panel discussions underlined that successful hydrogen deployment depends not only on technology, but also on communication, citizen acceptance, education, and economic viability. Speakers agreed that visible pilot projects and practical examples are crucial for building trust and public support.

The conference confirmed that hydrogen can become an important pillar of Central Europe’s energy transition. At the same time, stronger cooperation, supportive regulation, and concrete implementation measures will be necessary in the years ahead.
