As part of the CICADA4CE activities in Italy, an educational workshop on climate resilience took place at Don Milani Primary School in Nichelino. The session was led by the project partners — the Municipality of Nichelino, LAMORO Development Agency and LINKS Foundation — with scientific support from lecturers of the Department of Agricultural, Forest and Food Sciences of the University of Turin.

During the first part of the workshop, students were introduced to the main nature-based and urban solutions that help cities adapt to climate change, including green corridors, rain gardens, shading systems and permeable surfaces. Using simple examples and visual materials, the team explained how these measures can improve local microclimates, reduce heat stress, and manage stormwater more effectively.

In the second part of the activity, pupils were invited to actively imagine how the surroundings of their school could be transformed. Working in small groups, they developed drawings and proposals to improve green spaces, enhance biodiversity, create shaded areas and make the school environment more resilient and enjoyable.

The workshop successfully combined education, creativity and awareness-raising, showing how even the youngest citizens can contribute ideas for a more sustainable future. The activity also strengthened the link between the project partners, the school community and local stakeholders, demonstrating once again the value of involving children in climate adaptation processes.
