CLIMATE_CRICES ENGAGES PUBLIC AT EUROPEAN RESEARCHERS’ NIGHT 2025

Date: 26.09.2025

Ústí nad Labem, Czech Republic, 26 September 2025 – As part of the annual European Researchers’ Night, the Climate_CRICES project parnter, Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem (UJEP), showcased how science can inspire curiosity and support climate resilience through public engagement.

Researchers’ Night, initiated by the European Commission in 2005, is a Europe-wide initiative designed to dispel myths about science being inaccessible or dull. For one night each year, universities, research institutes, and science centres open their doors to the public, offering hands-on experiments, science shows, workshops, guided tours, and cultural activities — all free of charge. The goal is to show that scientists are ordinary people doing extraordinary work that directly benefits society.

Held under the theme “Wealth”, this year’s event highlighted the richness of natural resources, scientific discovery, and community well-being.  The UJEP stand focused on the wealth of water in cities and landscapes, and featured a prototype of a green roof. Children and their families explored its environmental benefits through interactive guessing games, supported by visual displays and informative discussions. Key statistics on surface temperature reduction were shared to demonstrate the real-world impact of nature-based solutions like green roofs in urban adaptation.

Project flyers were distributed to interested visitors to raise awareness about Climate_CRICES and its work on climate adaptation.

By participating in this dynamic public outreach event, the Climate_CRICES team helped raise awareness about the importance of local climate adaptation. It provided an opportunity to introduce the project’s goals and emphasize how data-driven approaches can support decision-makers in building more informed and effective adaptation strategies.
