MISSION CE CLIMATE meets the EU Mission on Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities at Ljubljana Climate Office

Date: 29.05.2024
This month, the Mission CE Climate project team visited the Ljubljana Climate Office to exchange experiences and establish collaborations across the two initiatives, both aiming to enable more sustainable, climate-friendly and resilient development of our communities.

During the visit, the Mission CE Climate partners presented the project objectives and current local actions. The visit took place at the Information Point “Ljubljana on the Road to Carbon Neutrality” at Pogańćarjev trg 3, a hub for innovation and a testing ground for climate solutions. The Info Point provides comprehensive information and guidance for stakeholders on how to contribute to Ljubljana’s climate neutrality goals.

The visit facilitated a valuable exchange of knowledge and experiences. The Mission CE Climate team learned about Ljubljana’s approaches and shared insights from their initiatives, emphasising the importance of cross-sectoral and collaborative efforts in achieving climate targets.

The visit also highlighted synergies with the EU Mission for Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities, which aims to deliver 100 climate-neutral and smart cities by 2030. This EU initiative supports cities, including Ljubljana, in their green and digital transformation, contributing to the European Green Deal’s goal of reducing emissions by 55% by 2030. Central to this EU Mission are Climate City Contracts, which outline comprehensive plans for climate neutrality across sectors such as energy, buildings, waste management, and transport. These contracts are co-created with local stakeholders and supported by a Mission Platform that provides technical, regulatory, and financial assistance.

The visit to the Ljubljana Climate Office marks a step in fostering collaboration and sharing best practices among European cities committed to climate resilience. It sets the stage for future cooperative efforts, leveraging synergies between local initiatives and broader EU missions to create a sustainable, climate-neutral future.
