The University Centre for Energy Efficient Buildings (UCEEB) is a research institute under the Czech Technical University (CTU) in Prague, dedicated to advancing environmentally friendly building practices and technologies. Our mission revolves around fostering sustainable development and creating healthy, comfortable indoor environments for building users. UCEEB focuses on a wide range of topics, from energy efficiency and innovative construction materials to renewable energy integration and nature-based solutions. Notably, the UCEEB building itself has been recognized by the Czech Council for Green Buildings as one of the TOP 10 ground-breaking green buildings in the Czech Republic, highlighting our commitment to sustainability and innovation.

In the SuPeRBE project, UCEEB is represented by its Sustainable Building research team, along with the Urban Ecohydrology team from the Architecture and Environment research department. Together, these teams contribute their expertise in building sustainability and urban environmental planning to address the complex challenges posed by climate change. The SuPeRBE project aligns perfectly with our core research areas, also considering the continuous development of the Czech national rating system for assessing the quality of buildings, namely SBToolCZ, and provides an excellent platform to expand our knowledge and practical experience in enhancing urban resilience.

Participation in the SuPeRBE project offers multiple benefits for UCEEB and for the broader context of the city of Prague. One of the critical issues highlighted in the Prague 2030 Climate Plan, published in 2021, is the city’s difficulty in assessing its climate resilience due to the lack of effective methodologies. The SuPeRBE project is set to fill this gap by developing a comprehensive climate risk assessment methodology that is directly applicable to municipalities, helping them better understand their vulnerabilities and plan appropriate adaptation measures.

For UCEEB, the SuPeRBE project is an opportunity to contribute to and leverage this new methodology, assessment tool and platform, fostering collaboration with other European research institutions, local governments, and stakeholders. The outcomes of the SuPeRBE project will not only advance our research capabilities but also provide actionable insights and tools that Prague and other Czech cities can utilize to enhance their resilience against climate risks. As such, the project directly supports UCEEB’s mission of promoting sustainable and resilient urban environments, contributing to a broader societal impact in the face of climate change.
