Marking a milestone in this collaborative journey, the inaugural event named “Green Mission for Climate,” took place on 20 March 2024. Hosted by the Development Agency for Podravje – Maribor and the Municipality of Maribor, the event was a hub of dynamic and constructive dialogue, aimed at paving the way towards a more sustainable and resilient society. The meeting showcased the ambitious projects and activities undertaken by notable entities such as the Slovenian Environment Agency, the Energy and Climate Agency for Podravje, the Štajerska Chamber of Commerce, the University of Maribor, and the Maribor Public Holding Group, among others. These initiatives cover a broad spectrum of areas critical to resilience and sustainability, including circular waste management, the adoption of renewable energy sources, green infrastructure development, and the promotion of community resilience to climate change. Key highlights from the meeting encompassed discussions on innovative solutions for climate change mitigation, such as nature-based solutions, sustainable food systems, and the vital role of education in raising awareness about environmental issues. The participants also explored strategies for protecting the community from heatwaves, responsible waste and water management, and supporting mental health in the context of environmental anxiety. The enthusiasm for networking and the collective desire to regularly convene underscored the participants’ commitment to joint action. The meeting concluded with a consensus on the importance of continued collaboration and the exploration of new avenues to address in the future. As Maribor forges ahead with its Green Mission for Climate, the city extends its gratitude to all participants for their active engagement and contributions towards addressing climate challenges.
