EU Mobility Week in Krems

Date: 26.09.2024

Residents of Krems (and of course everyone else who spends time here) were invited as part of this project to discover unknown places, non-places, and vacant spaces in the city, and to upload photos of these “white spots” along with usage suggestions on a virtual platform. The results will be showcased in a (virtual) exhibition. https://dieweissenfleckenvonkrems.com/

UWK had planned to present the “GehZeitKarte” at the SC meeting (planned to hold during mobility week but cancelled due to floodings) to all partners.

The new walking time map illustrates with minute indications how quickly various destinations in the Krems city area can be reached on foot. “Today, let’s walk!” is the motto of the freshly printed Krems walking time map. It shows, with minute indications, how quickly you can get from A to B on foot in the city center as well as in the districts of Stein, Mitterau, Weinzierl, and Lerchenfeld. In addition to educational institutions, parks, and squares, the stops of the Krems city bus are also marked. A complete network plan with all stops of the seven city bus lines can be found on the back of the walking time map.

Walk more everyday routes

The new walking time map aims to motivate the people of Krems to leave their cars behind more often. Often, it is the small, hidden places that make the special charm of Krems. Residents are called to take the opportunity to discover these places on foot and try out routes they haven’t walked before. The walking time map is an innovative project that visualizes the walking times to important destinations in the city. Through the clear presentation, the population should be motivated to walk more everyday routes.

Health and economic benefits

Walking has numerous benefits: it is good for health as it integrates movement into everyday life and reduces environmental pollution. In addition, walking supports the local economy as it encourages people to visit shops outside the pedestrian zone.

Map is available for free

The walking time map was created by the pedestrian and bicycle traffic officers and the Office for Urban and Traffic Planning in the Krems Magistrate in cooperation with NÖ Regional. It was included in the current city journal, which was sent to all households in Krems in the first week of September 2024. Additionally, the walking time map can be found online at www.krems.at/fussverkehr or can be picked up for free at the citizen service office in the town hall and at the Service Center Bauen (Bertschingerstraße 13). The new walking time map would have also been officially presented and distributed during the European Mobility Week in Krems. © city of Krems
