The issue of better access to digital goods and knocking down barriers to the development of digitalisation and innovative services has long been discussed by European experts. Europe has a potential to specialise in digital solutions on a global scale, however, everyone agrees that it is not fully exploited. The main barrier is the fragmentation of markets, and lack of uniform regulations and procedures. A new EU initiative supporting the digitalisation of industry: Digital Innovation Hubs is there to remedy.
The DIH centres are hubs of complex services, where businesses, and especially SMEs and start-ups, can improve their competences connected to streamlining production processes, products, and services by implementing digital technologies.
The goal of S3HubsinCE project is to build competences of regional DIHs in Central and Eastern Europe by exchanging experience and good practices between project partners. The competences are built in the following technology areas:
RIS3 (Regional Innovation Strategy) are national or regional innovation strategies which set priorities in order to build competitive advantage by developing and matching research and innovation strength to business and market needs. This is synonymous with the term Smart Specialisation Strategies (S3).
DIHs (Digital Innovation Hubs) are ecosystems that consist of SMEs, large industries, start-ups, researchers, accelerators, and investors. They aim to create the best conditions for long-term business success for all involved.
The CERIS Navigation Crews are strategic task forces, made up of relevant stakeholders & experts aligned with EU working groups, based around the CE RIS3 Technology Priority Areas (TPAs), which generate a transnationally integrated network of innovative actors who will strengthen regional innovation ecosystems through enhanced knowledge exchange and joint-planning of concrete, market-focused, bottom-up RIS3 actions.

During these demanding and unpredictable times, Partners of the S3HubsinCE project will meet online. This virtual meeting will allow Partners to discuss the workflow of WP1, WP2, the Navigation Crew’s reports, the functionalities and role of Digital Integration Toolkit and the next activities. The Project Partners will talk about how to develop the Navigation Crew’s common strategy by defining joint cooperation and concrete mobility and pilot actions. The joint-strategy will be a model for value-creation which is spread by each navigation crew and brought to life in a common narrative about enhancing support efforts for RIS3 Excellence Target Groups in Central Europe.
Intellimech has organized on June 6th 2019 intro conference of S3HubsinCE project. The main objective of the meeting was to generate a comprehensive start to the project, creating a better common understanding of project vision, programme priorities and work packages
Krakow Technology Park has organized on November 5th 2019 intro conference of S3HubsinCE project. The conference was targeted at SMEs from south of Poland, especially Malopolska region, interested in key technology priority areas, in joining Navigation Crews and possible transnational opportunities, but also regional authorities and business support organisations. Among the companies who presented their factory & process automation solutions have been: ASTOR, FIdeltronik, Comarch and many others. The conference ended with a panel discussion on the role of Digital innovation Hubs in the regional ecosystem.
The two-day seminar offered a mix of theory and practice on how to run transnational cooperation projects effectively. Participants found out what the ingredients of effective project communications are and how to use them in an attractive and effective way.
After expert presentations, there was an opportunity to enter discussions with over 90 project communication managers from second and third call and to exchange knowledge and experience.
The next meeting of project partners will be held in Villach on 12–13 November 2019. It will focus on reporting of the current status of each work package. Project Partners will discuss the workflow of WP1, the Navigation Crew reports, the functionalities and role of Digital Integration Toolkit, and the activities to be taken.
On the second day of the meeting the official Kick-off Conference will be held, accompanied by a guided tour of CUAS Facilities. The main aim of the Kick-off Conference is to present the current status on RIS3 and DIH activities in participating regions, with special focus on regional and transnational good practices.
On 4 September 2019 Kraków Technology Park presented S3HubsinCE project at the stand of the Responsible Research Innovation Labs put up at the international conference Open Living Lab Days 2019 (OLLDs) organised by ENOLL.
The main aim of OLLDs is to bring together researchers, public authorities, companies, and living lab practitioners to exchange knowledge, best practises, methodologies, and tools related to Living Labs and user engagement in such domains such as IT, ICT, energy, media, mobility, healthcare, and agrifood. Beside the presentation, we organised an open discussion on how to strengthen the cooperation between two projects with Siscode project partners.
We are pleased to invite you to The 1st Conference on AI, digitalisation, and automotive industry that will take place in Budapest on 18 October 2019. International trends will be presented at the event by Jaguar Land Rover Center, Audi Hungarian Zrt., and The Fraunhofer Institute.

The Kick-Off Meeting of the S3HubsinCE project has been hosted by TECOS and held in Celje, Slovenia, 16-17 April 2019. At the meeting participated representatives of 10 partners from 7 countries. The main objective of the meeting was to generate a comprehensive start to the project, creating a better common understanding of project partners organisation, the project’s goals, the detailed operations planned to take place across the project life-cycle, and how a strong performance in work package 1 shapes a robust foundation for work package 2 & 3.
Project Partners have presented their organisations, but also their regional digital innovation hub initiatives and regional Smart Specialisation Strategies. In the afternoon an interactive workshop has been held as “Speed Dating session”. The meeting ended with a guided tour of TECOS facilities.
The Kick off conference of the S3HubsinCE project is planned as part of the Innovation Congress, that will take place in Villach 12-14 November 2019.The Innovation Congress in Villach is serving as a valuable catalyst and networking platform with the motto “Digital Innovation- What’s Next?”.
An exceptionally interesting programme has been lined up for the more than 1,000 participants which include companies from a variety of industries and range from SMEs to multinationals, as well as Austrian managers and international leaders from the public and private sectors. International innovation leaders from all over Europe will meet to exchange ideas and experience. The congress offers a wide range of interactive sessions, workshops and focus sessions covering exciting innovation and technology topics like f.eg blockchain, AI, 3D etc.
