Priority Innovation and knowledge development
Aim The main objective is the development of new models of smart, sustainable and user oriented mobility, thought new technologies applicable to small-medium sized towns.
The project is expected to create a new smart management of the main transit an parking spaces, in particular in the central business areas of the medium size towns; these are indeed the benchmark for a catchment area that include not only the resident but even the population of the surrounded districts.
In these areas is not easy to find a sustainable model for managing the local public transport which can guarantees standard in line with the user’s expectations and connected with different public transports (intermodal transport).
The small dimensions of the urban centres obstacle the diffusion of new systems of sustainable mobility (e.g. car sharing or carpooling).
The low level of information and awareness of the citizens in mobility field and a low attention in own welling, influence often, in a negative way, the use of new technologies.
Results • Creation of a new cooperation areas and of a network of International stakeholders;
• Implementation of urban management models, small-medium sized towns oriented;
• Diagnostic activities about involved areas, in respect of the urban mobility’s objectives and indicators
• Creation of new “user oriented” technologies, based on specific users demand (the information about traffic and parking areas will be different between the user that has to go grocery shopping or at the post office, or between handicapped and elderly users, …);
• Development of sustainable and smart mobility plans for the business areas in cities centre;

Innovation The project’s purpose is to find answers about the interconnected and intermodal urban mobility between the urban cities centres involved; it will be done by a modelling process of urban mobility able to find flexible solutions adaptable to the specifics demands of the areas involved in the project.
Another important purpose of the project is a high-impact communication actions in a way to encourage citizen’s habits. A participatory approach will be adopted allowing for the exchange of know-how, experience and ideas among the stakeholders (e.g. decision makers, experts, citizens, retailers), and attention will be given to smart parking technologies that could present an efficient and effective solution, and can provide data for urban mobility management in general. Parking solutions will be tested at local case studies.
Follow up of Offering easy and seamless door-to-door accessibility private car transport is a central part of today’s small-medium sized areas mobility in particular, where the public transport is usually inadequate. Nevertheless, the consequences of this mobility behaviour (e.g. air pollution) and “car-dependent” life-styles have brought about numerous negative impacts that represent a threat to human health, quality of life, and natural ecosystems (e.g. climate change).
The revitalization of the historical centres and of its business areas, has an effect on the well-being of the citizens, enhancing the areas with a new urban mobility management concept, focused on the accessibility improving; for example realization of technological solutions that can manage the parking lots in a better way, detecting automatically the free parking areas and the real time user’s feedback.
