Trento Pilot: Nationwide hackathon #HACK2017

The main action of the URBAN INNO Trento pilot is to develop and test participatory process to enable innovation in the public administration and government in collaboration with local associations and citizens interested in the innovative development of the urban area.

As a part of the activities in Trento made by Informatica Trentina, URBAN INNO is supporting the organization of the #HACK2017 event in Trento, 7-8 October 2017. With this action URBAN INNO will enable the participation of Trento to the biggest hackathon Italian promoted by the Italian Digital Transformation Team in collaboration with Codemotion, which will involve 25 Italian cities and one foreign headquarters in San Francisco, more than 80 technology communities and more than 1000  nationwide developers. The Trento event is planning to have about 50-60 participants.

Through this action, all developers across Italy will be called to support the work already started by, the community created in March 2017 by the Digital Transformation Team in collaboration with AgID - Italian Digital Agency, in order to accelerate the digitalization of the public administration in Italy. This hackathon - a true marathon of code - is a size challenge never before seen: it is the first time that a hackathon of this vastness is organized in Italy and involves so many cities at the same time. The purpose is that stated: build together a Public Administration to fit citizen needs.

Trento and URBAN INNO will be part of that challenge. Through the involvement of Informatica Trentina, the local URBAN INNO partner and jointly with the involvement of associations and other local stakeholders and SMEs.

  • The organization lead is by Speck&Tech, an association based in Trento that it is a community of startupers, students and young professionals fascinated by technology living in Trentino;
  • The hosting place will be provided by Impact Hub Trentino the private incubator and co-working space in Trento part of the international network;
  • The event will be also co-organized  by UniTin, the Network of Students at the University of Trento and HIT (Trentino Innovation Hub).

The event will be also supported by other local stakeholders and local enterprises: Dedagroup, EIT Digital Trento, Spindox, Paros, Data Space, Trentino Network, OpenContent and UniTN-Contamination Lab

The #HACK2017 will be supported by URBAN INNO through the involvement of the Informatica Trentina staff and with the coverage of some of the organizational costs of the event. Informatica Trentin,  beside to help organization, communication and tutorship of the event, will test the effectiveness of hackathon as a methodology to stimulate bottom-up engagement and innovation in the urban area, making it available for the other URBAN INNO partners as a part of the URBAN INNO Participatory Toolbox.
